Hero and Villain by stratosmacca Hero and Villain by stratosmacca
Quick sketch I drew up at work today. These are two original characters from a project of mine that I've been wanting to do for years now. I first came up with the idea when I was in middle school (a good 15 years ago now)-- it's primarily a fantasy story with a few sci-fi elements. A nice big epic kind of thing.

The main character is a young man named Jayden, who is pictured above with his villainous foe (yet to be named). I'm still coming up with designs for these two, so they'll more than likely change. Especially the villain, heh.

Just some ideas I was kicking around :)

Yayness! I'm really happy that you're coming back with your own thing again! (you think we can collab using this and one of my characters? ;) )
When will you be posting more of your original stuff? You keep teasing me about it!

Cool!! Great work on these two so far--already they seem plucked right from the "epic" you describe! The villain immediately struck me as a "Vladimir" type of fellow--or some other hard Russian-type moniker--maybe it's the sharp little beard, or that ferocious expression...don't know! I always thought it was a good "villain name!" Great costuming for Jayden--love the gauntlets (always do! ;p), and the boots are very cool! A good composition here, as well--like a movie poster, almost! You could hang on to this for a "teaser poster!" I really like it!

I think this is the right direction for you. When we first met, your art was much more cartoony and the Wendy Pini and Mike Weiringo influence was there. I think for different reasons you moved away from this direction a little over the last few years and seeing your resolve to rediscover the style you personally feel comfortable with is really great. I really love the fact that you are also returning to creating your own stuff again. As great as it is to see your interpretations of other people's characters (which you do superbly), seeing your own ideas like this one just have this extra energy and excitement about them.

This is my favorite piece of yours right now. I've come back to see this picture several times now. I love the weighted lines, the high quality cartoony look, the pose, and the concept. I love what you are doing. Please do more!

I love the solid style of art here!
Reminds me a bit of Ringo (R.I.P.)

Thanks, Pat! I draw in a bunch of different styles a lot, but my actual style (which, I think this is) is very Mike-influenced. He's been my favorite artist since I was 13.

I still miss him :(
